The phone gives us a lot but takes away three key elements of discovery: lonliness, uncertainty, and boredom. Those have always been where creative ideas come from.
The above quote from famed American cartoonist and author Lynda Barry came at me hard at the end of last week after checking out of work for a much needed respite until the new year. She’s not wrong. In fact I’d argue she’s so so right. A few days of boredom and quiet have already done me good.
